OSU Golfers Win Big 12 Title

Oklahoma State won its fifth consecutive conference crown and ninth in the league’s 15-year history. OSU finished with a four-round team total of 1,139 to pull away from Texas A&M by 13 strokes, marking the fourth consecutive year the Cowboys have won by at least 13 strokes. The victory gives the Oklahoma State golf program Review of TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 Series 54 conference titles in 65 years of play.The harsh conditions also got the better of the University of Oklahoma golfers in the final round as the Sooners came in with a team total of 311.Wednesday’s conditions turned the final round into a contest of who would make the fewest mistakes and that was Oklahoma State’s Peter Uihlein, who was the only golfer to avoid a round over par, which helped him move from 19th to a tie for fourth.“Prairie Dunes showed its teeth. The course played hard all week, but today it was definitely difficult,” Uihlein said. “I finally came around and hit the ball pretty good and was able to take advantage on some holes. I just hit it better today, I just wasn’t comfortable all week and (Tuesday) I scrapped around a 69 — I don’t know how — but today I hit it a lot better and was able to make some putts.”

OSU junior Morgan Hoffmann won medalist honors — the second time he has won the Big 12 at Prairie Dunes, doing so in 2009 as a freshman — with a four-round total of 280 despite shooting a 3-over 73 on the final day. Ryan Sirman was the top finisher for the Sooners, falling from his spot in fourth heading into the final day thanks to a 7-over 77 that landed him just outside of the top 10 with a tie for 11th-place with a four-round total of 290.The victory was the second this season for Hoffmann and his fifth career victory at OSU. Coming in behind Hoffmann was senior Kevin Tway, who shot a 5-over 75 in the final round to finish five strokes behind Hoffmann for second. It was the fourth time OSU had the top two individuals in the conference tournament.
